Officially sanctioned sesquicentennial events: Is your group or organization interested in hosting a sesquicentennial activity? Fill out an Application for A Sanctioned Sesquicentennial Activity Sanctioned Public Events: Year long activities – Woman’s Life Insurance Society celebrates 115 years of successful existence in Port Huron in 2007. Throughout the year, Woman’s Life will be inviting women and women’s groups into their home office in Port Huron for various programs including hosting women’s club’s monthly meetings and special presentations with local speakers. By celebrating with programs that educate and enlighten women, Woman’s Life will focus on their mission to enable women to become personally and financially empowered and independent, a mission that started 115 years ago and is still relevant today. Woman’s Life is a Founders Sponsor of the City’s Sesquicentennial celebration. Year long activities – The Guide to Port Huron Architecture, commemorating the City’s 150th and the American Institute of Architects 150th, was recently released and is available at MainStreet, City Clerk’s Office, Chamber office and other locations and it is organized so that you can plan your own walking or driving tour of Port Huron and view the many beautiful and significant works of architecture in our community. This project was spearheaded by LeRoy J. Stevens, local architect. December 31, 2007 – January 1, 2008 – First Night Port Huron – downtown locations. This is a celebration of the visual and performing arts and will be the closing event for the Sesquicentennial. Its theme is “Imagine our Future.” Sanctioned Events: Year long event – All elementary schools in Port Huron will be receiving the book/DVD combo for their media centers. The children will be viewing the video which will then be coordinated with a trolley ride to visit most of the attractions mentioned in the video and book. This is a great opportunity for the students to learn about the history of Port Huron and join in the celebration of its sesquicentennial. Blue Water Area Transportation Commission will be providing the trolley. Sesquicentennial stickers will be provided to the students who take the trolley ride.
